About the Event
Coffee Friends and Supporters of Building New Hope:
We would like to invite you to our next Coffee Lab series. What does it mean to be bird-friendly?
Join us on zoom Wednesday, July 21st from 6:00pm to 7:00pm to learn what it means to drink bird-friendly coffee. There is no shortage of labels and phrases to attract environmentally-conscious consumers: "'organic', '"shade-grown", "sustainable", yet very few coffees have earned the Smithsonian's bird-friendly certification. In this Coffee Lab, Justine Bowe from The Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center and Dr. Chase D. Mendenhall from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History will discuss how the "Bird-Friendly" gold standard does more than other eco-friendly seals to protect habitat, and the importance of preserving endangered species and natural habitats. We will also talk about how consuming bird-friendly coffee benefits other wildlife, coffee farmers, your health and the health of the planet. Please join us for this important discussion on how the coffee you drink impacts the environment!
The Coffee Lab Series consist of 5-6 events throughout the year (the third Wednesday of every other month at 6:00pm)! Why does organic matter? How can coffee help birds? What benefits does fair trade bring? Learn about the whole world within your cup of joy with Building New Hope’s new year-long project THE COFFEE LAB SERIES.
Building New Hope is proud to be the ONLY local Pittsburgh organization that has a direct trade relationship with an organic, bird-friendly coffee cooperative in Nicaragua. Please learn more about the work we do at www.BuildingNewHope.org.
Thank you for supporting Building New Hope, and we hope you can join us on the 21st!
