Any of the choices below can be your gift to someone on your shopping list... someone who is not in need of another tie or bottle of perfume, someone who would be delighted with the thought that their gift enhanced the quality of life for someone who has so much less.

Building New Hope will send a gift card to your friend or family member to announce that their gift from you helped to educate a child or paid their teacher, and gave a glimmer of hope in a place where life is so much more difficult than ours.

Education

School Supplies	$50 / student	Help a child purchase a school uniform, backpack, notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, calculator, Spanish dictionary and other supplies needed to start the school year.
Teacher's Salary	$125 / month	Our two schools, Escuelita Yo Puedo and Quinta Los Chavalos, serve elementary and secondary school children in poor neighborhoods. These schools employ experienced Nicaraguan and international teachers. We are able to attract talented educators because of our fair employment standards.
University Scholarships	$60 / month	Building New Hope provides scholarships for young adults in Granada and the El Porvenir coffee co-op. Also, last year we established the Norman Paladino Scholarship in memory of an outstanding young teacher who died tragically. The award supports students pursuing careers in education.
High School Scholarships	$125 / month	Building New Hope awards scholarships to talented, at-risk youth students so they can receive a quality bi-lingual high school education.

Health

Nutritious Meals	$10 / day	Provide a nutritious breakfast and lunch to students at Quinta Los Chavalos. These children are from extremely impoverished families. The meals you provide may very well be their only ones for the day.
Animal Health Care		Our animal clinic, Casa Lupita, provides quality veterinary care to improve the health of animals and of the general public.
	$25 / small animal	Spaying, neutering, providing food and medication for stray dogs and cats
	$50 / horse	Care and medical treatment of work horses

Creativity

Music Lessons	$50 / month	This gift brings the love of music into the lives of children through our popular Rhythm in the Barrios program. Help purchase and maintain instruments and contribute to the salaries of our music teachers who provide music lessons in outlying schools.
Culinary Arts Workshop	$60 / student	This provides an opportunity for a young, at-risk teen to participate in our culinary arts workshop and at CaféChavalos, our internationally renowned restaurant. Your donation will support culinary and restaurant management training, uniforms, English classes and other expenses.

Community

Lending Library

$25 / month

Give a gift of support to the first neighborhood lending library in Granada, Biblioteca Puedo Leer, which provides educational and reading programs, new books and magazines, both in the library and in neighboring schools.

Partnership

Coffee Plants	$35 / 50 plants	The El Porvenir worker's cooperative produces great tasting, organic, shade-grown coffee. Building New Hope works to ensure both ecological and economic sustainablity by paying a fair trade price for coffee and by providing grants for community projects. In order to maintain its high quality coffee, El Porvenir needs to replace its aging coffee plants with new plants.
Awareness and Outreach in the U.S.		Building New Hope is firmly committed to educating people in the Unites States about the lives of Central Americans and the pressing need for education, health care and sustainable development. A gift of any amount will help us reach out to schools and universities, places of worship, small businesses and civic organizations in Pittsburgh and beyond.
